Story:

Robert Graysmith is a cartoonist who works for the San Francisco Chronicle. His bizarre ways haunt Paul Avery, a reporter whose drinking gets in the way of his work. The two become friends because of a common interest: the zodiac killer. Graysmith becomes increasingly obsessed with the case, as Avery’s life slips into alcoholic oblivion. Greysmith’s amateur sleuth leads him on the way to David Toschi, a police inspector who has so far failed to catch his man; Sherwood Morrill, handwriting specialist; Linda Del Bueno, a criminal who knew one of the victims of the Zodiac; and others. Greysmith’s job, his wife, and their children all become insignificant next to the one thing that really matters: holding onto the amount.
