Chicago boy Randhir Singh (Sunny Deol) is commitment-phobic. New York girl Tiku Verma (Kangana Ranaut) doesn’t believe she can be happy. Fate brings the two together, challenging the notions they hold about themselves.
Since Tiku’s parents are no more, loneliness overtakes him and forces him to settle down with Ishaan, who wants to be his English-speaking lover. He is high-handed, unfair, and disrespects her but she makes a pact in hopes of feeling loved and wanted.
Coincidentally, when she returns to her apartment on New Year’s Eve, she finds a drunken stranger (Randhir) in her bed! Apparently, Randhir who is all set to marry girlfriend Rhea (Tannishtha Chatterjee) after being single for the longest time, gets drunk and accidentally boards a flight to New York.
It becomes hard to believe when her building, flat number in Chicago and even the house keys match Kangana’s. With a terrible hunger, he enters her house thinking it is his own and this puts Tiku’s relationship with Ishaan in jeopardy. Randhir tries to mend things but things only escalate.
The plot tries to touch upon the idea of how one can find solace in the company of complete strangers, who at times seem to understand you more than your loved ones. Randhir and Tiku’s chance meeting, strange bond and mutual admiration that eventually culminates in friendship and love is quirky yet relatable.
Kangana is very beautiful to look at. She did this movie before she was Queen, proving she was always in it. What a wonderful actress she is becoming. Your heart goes out for her when she tells Randhir, ‘Ishaan pe mat jao, baaki log meri kathi izzat karte hain’. Intelligent, genuine, funny…she’s the most special girl next door.
Sunny Deol looks awkward for his role but delivers an honest performance, which helps him carry on.
It is a pity that some multiplexes canceled the shows of this movie due to its low occupancy for a really good romcom that you would not mind watching once. And it doesn’t even look old.
